INTRODUCTION
“The only source of knowledge is
experience”
-Albert
Einstein
In the pursuant of the New Teacher
Educational Curriculum of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum
Order No. 30 Series 2004 or also known as “Revised Policies And
Standards For Undergraduate Teacher Education Curriculum”. The Field Study Courses are the
additional subject in new implemented curriculum of Teacher Education. The
Field Study is the big transformational challenge to the students of Teacher
Education degree programs to explore the practical learning experiences in
which they can observe, verify, reflect on, and actually experience different
components of the teaching-learning processes in actual school settings.
The fourth year student teachers of
Teacher Education have the three Field Study these are the Field Study 4
“Exploring the Curriculum”, Field Study 5 “Learning Assessment Strategies”, and
Field Study 6 “On Becoming a Teacher”. These are the last Field Study to be
taken up by the student teachers because the Field Study 1 and 2 was obtained
in the second year, and, Field Study 3 was taken in the third year.
In relation about the Field Study,
the practical learning experiences of the FS students are compiling to reflect
the insight gained of all the actual learning experiences during the
observation and participation at the respective cooperating school of the
student teachers. The content of this document is the narration of experiences
while the student teachers are going to answer the three sets of Field Study
module which they can understand the role and routine of the teacher during the
classroom discussion and other related school activities prior on the teaching
and learning processes. This will serve as a pre-service of teacher for the
primary and secondary educational sectors to improve the quality of education,
to develop effective teachers in the Philippines and to keep pace with the
demands of global competitiveness.
NARRATION
OF EXPERIENCE
In the afternoon of August 01, 2014
this was the remarkable day of being a fourth year college student because it
was our deployment day in our chosen cooperating school. We are eleven student
teachers from different majors who were deployed in Linga National High School
at Linga Pila, Laguna. This school is my alma mater that is why I am excited
and happy to come back here to do my observation and participation in my Field
Study subject. My alma mater the Linga National High School helped me a lot to
develop my personality and my whole potential as a person. During our
deployment day we are accompanied and assisted of our Field Study
Coordinators/Instructors, they are Dr. Josefina de Jesus (BSEd FS Instructor),
Dr. Henly Martirez (BEEd FS Instructor) and Prof. June Tuiza (BSIE FS
Instructor). They had a little conversation with the Linga NHS Principal I, Mr.
Greg M. Ibesate about the tasks that we were going to do to our cooperating
school as an observer.
On August 02, 2014, we the student
teachers had a short orientation with the principal. We introduced our self to
the principal one by one and the principal also introduced himself formally.
The orientation that Mr. Ibesate discussed to us are the rules and regulation
of the school, the task that we are only need to do based on the Memorandum of
Agreement of the Laguna State Polytechnic University and DepEd Laguna, and he
gave the name of the teacher that was assigned to us as our cooperating teacher
in the first semester. After the
orientation I met my cooperating teacher his name is Mr. Gilmore S. Reyes Jr. a
grade 8 Science teacher. He graduated at Laguna College (now, Laguna
University) taken up BSEd major in Biological Science. He is the adviser of the Grade 8-Apricot and
he has a teaching load of MAPEH in IV-Einstein. Before the day was end I fixed
and settled all of my requirements and the schedule of my observation and
participation with the help of my cooperating teacher. We also tackled the date
when I would start my observation to his class. He also asked me about my
personal information and why I chose this course as my profession in the
future.
I met all the students of Mr. Reyes
Jr. the Grade 8-Apricot, Basil, Cayenne, Dill, Eucalyptus, Fleur delis and
IV-Einstein on August 05, 2014,. He made a small message to advice his students
to respect all the student teachers then I introduced myself about my personal
information, achievements and educational information or attainment. I gave them a short inspiration message to
study hard and make their high school life happy and enjoyable together with
their classmates and teachers.
I always observed that my
cooperating teacher used different teaching strategies or techniques to make
the discussion clear and understandable. He also used varied activities to
strengthen the learners multiple intelligences.
He promotes the learners’ development and improves the level of
knowledge of the learners with the used effective teaching and learning
processes. He used various instructional materials to get the attention of the
learners and he also motivated the learners to boost their interest to listen
and participate in the classroom discussion. After the discussion he assessed
the learners using different assessment methods to determine if they really
understood the lesson. He made the discussion very lively without a doll moment
that would result to the good interaction between the teacher and students.
My cooperating teacher Mr. Reyes Jr.
was very particular to the classroom management such as the seating
arrangement, ventilation, lighting, bulletin board, cleanliness and orderliness
of his advisory classroom. He administered the organization of the classroom
especially the school has a program about the classroom management. The entire
classrooms will be rank every month based on the set criteria and the grade and
section who will win will receive certificate and cleaning materials as
rewards.
Mr. Reyes Jr. had concerned to all
students most especially to his advisory class the Grade 8-Apricot. He is very
supportive, loving and caring to them. He helped the students to solve the problems
at home and even at school matters. There are times that he was mad and anger
because of the noise of the students while he discussing the lesson.
When my cooperating teacher was not
around the school and busy due of school works and activities I was the one who
took over his classes. I just used the instructional materials he prepared and
I do the same way how he discussed the topic. Sometimes I only administer the
formative assessment and facilitate the activity in the Science.
I also experienced to be a proctor
in the First Periodical Examination of the students in Linga National High
School on August 19, 201. Me and my cooperating teacher assigned as a proctor
of Grade 7-A. We started in a short prayer to get the guidance of our Almighty
God and the procedures on answering the examination. I helped him in
administering and supervising students while as they take the examination. The
students were focused and quiet in answering a mind boggling questions. They
didn’t look the paper of their seatmates because they were very confident and
competitive.
The Science Department Head Mrs.
Nellie Militante requested us (the LSPU student teachers) to join the Science tour
on September 10, 2014, at University of the Philippines Los Baňos, Laguna for
primarily reason to assist the students while they were on the trip. We
monitored the behavior of the students and we assure the safety of all students
who assigned to us. It was quite difficult because we are in-charged and liable
to whatever might happened to the students whether it is good or bad during the
educational fieldtrip. Even though the responsibility assigned to our hands are
difficult I had time to enjoy this tour because of doing selfie with my
students and my co-Student Teachers. I learned
so many things in this activity such as on how to assist students during the
tour or educational fieldtrip, on how to control and keep them safe outside the
school premises.
I attended the Science Camp of the
school on September 25, 2014 that wants to open the mind of the students to
become an environmentalist. The students act as an environmentalist that promotes
the conservation and leads the protection of our natural resources. They have a
symposium relating on the cause of global warming to our mother earth and the
movement of different non-government organization like the group of students to
stop destruction of the earth. The students really enjoyed the camp because of
the activities and most importantly the main event of the camp, the Mr. and Ms.
Kalikasan 2014. The 18 contestants, 10 handsome
gentlemen and 8 gorgeous ladies wore recyclable materials from the plastics,
papers and others. The costumes were looked very expensive even it was not and
it was colorful that gives attraction to the viewers. They were also smart in
expressing their message based on the word they have picked on the bowl. It
only certified that the contestants were not just beautiful or handsome but
they also prove that they were all brilliant.
October 09, 2014, the last day of my
observation and participation in my cooperating school I will really miss my
students even they are noisy and importunate. They make me strong to survive in
this field of practice and they make me fall in love in teaching like it’s
jumping out of a plane and falling to the ground where you can’t even control
your terminal velocity due to gravity which keeps us “FALLING” all over again.
I would like to thank Mr. Greg M.
Ibesate Principal 1 my cooperating principal for allowing us to conduct an
observation and participation to his school, Mr. Gilmore S, Reyes Jr. my
cooperating teacher for sharing his different teaching strategies and also for
the advice on how to become an effective teacher in the near future, and last
for my supportive students of Linga National High School for the wonderful
experiences we have shared to each another. I can never forget all them because
they feel with me on how to be a teacher I will treasure all of the moments we
had since of my first observation in their class. All of you them now are part
of my success!!!

"KAROLING"
